Flowers of the Country, in Fill Bloom

In our country blessed with four seasons, its beautiful nature has been adopted into daily life due to the gifted sensitivity of the people since ancient times. Among nature, flowers with petals that blossom and fall throughout the four seasons have comforted people with their beautiful colors and fragrant aromas, showing natural brilliance. Therefore, they were adopted in various designs to decorate our surroundings, and especially became requisite for auspicious events.

There are various flowers among the many species that were favored, and the cherry blossom and chrysanthemum are the most representative flowers of the pleasant seasons, namely spring and autumn, and are also the flowers representing Japan.

This spring, Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Their wedding was held on April 10th, 1959, and the screen in the commemorative photograph taken with Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun at the celebration banquet on April 12th, was Flowers of the Country, depicting cherry blossoms and chrysanthemums in full bloom. In this exhibition, we will display works with the same motifs as this screen, cherry blossoms and chrysanthemums, along with various flowers of the four seasons in various expressions. In this commemorative year of the 50th Imperial wedding anniversary, and also the 20th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor, we would like to share our felicitation with our visitors, while enjoying the various expressions of our country’s beautiful flowers through the works in our collection.
