The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo

The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were developed as an attached garden to the palace, utilizing parts of the former Honmaru, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru areas of Edo Castle, and have been open to the public since 1968 (Showa 43).

Notice

  • Baggage inspection is conducted at the entrance. Bring minimum personal effects. Leaving your baggage in a local locker at a train station or at a hotel is recommended.

Visitor Information

Closed

The Garden is closed on the following days and occasions.

  • Every Monday and Friday (open on National Holiday except the Emperor’s Birthday, February 23)
  • In the event that a National Holiday falls on a Monday, the Garden will be closed on the Tuesday immediately following the National Holiday.
  • From December 28 to January 3
  • In circumstances where it is deemed necessary to close the Garden due to Imperial Court functions or other occasions.
