Fostering friendly relations with foreign countries

The Imperial Family facilitates the fostering of good relations on an international level through visits to other countries by the Emperor or other members of the Imperial Family, or by receiving a foreign country's monarch, Royal Family or President as distinguished guests. They also receive other foreign dignitaries or leading figures from abroad, exchange letters and telegrams with foreign Heads of State, or dispatch a representative to foreign countries on the occasion of celebration or sorrow (on appropriate occasions), and receive diplomatic missions residing in Japan.
