His Majesty the Emperor has studied classifications of gobiid fishes for a long time. His studies have been highly regarded internationally. Her Majesty conducts activities including writing books for children and translating picture books.

In Heisei 21 (2009), Their Majesties visited the Special Exhibition commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Enthronement, Gobioids and their Diversity, which is held in the National Museum of Nature and Science. In Heisei 18 (2008), His Majesty delivered a speech titled Linne and Japanese Taxonomy at the celebration event for the 300th anniversary of Linne's birth in the United Kingdom. In Heisei 10 (1998), Her Majesty delivered a video speech for the 26th IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Congress.

Linne is called the father of the plant taxonomy. He is known for having decided how to describe the scientific names.

In Heisei 10 (1998), Her Majesty delivered a video speech for the 26th IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Congress.
Her Majesty wrote the story of a picture book Hajimete no Yamanobori (My First  Mountain).
