Overseas Visits

Since accession to the throne, Their Majesties have officially visited 28 countries. They meet various people including kings and presidents to foster friendly relations.

Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited a children’s hospital during their visit to Canada in 2009, and continue to visit welfare facilities both in Japan and overseas. In 2015 their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited Palau to mark 70 years since the end of the War, offering flowers and prayers at the monument commemorating the soldiers who died in battle on the island of Peleliu in the South West Pacific. In 2016 their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited the Philippines, where they spoke with invited guests at the Japanese Embassy.
   
In 2017 their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited Vietnam, where they were welcomed by children at the welcoming ceremony.
