Affairs of State

His Majesty the Emperor carries out affairs of state designated to Him in the Constitution of Japan in accordance with the advice and approval of the Cabinet. Related to these affairs, His Majesty attends the opening ceremonies of Diet sessions and ceremonies held at the Imperial Palace.

His Majesty reads documents, more than 1,000 a year, sent from the Cabinet. His Majesty appoints the Prime Minister as designated by the Diet. A newly appointed foreign ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary presents his/her credentials to His Majesty the Emperor.
