the Kyoto Imperial Palace

Kyoto Imperial Palace is around the center of Kyoto City. The palace is square-shaped and measures about 450 meters from north to south, 250 meters from east to west. You need about 30 minutes to walk all the way around the palace. The Emperors' residence was in Kyoto from Enryaku 13 (794) to Meiji 1 (1869). The current Kyoto Imperial Palace has been the residence of Emperors for about 540 years until Meiji 1 (1869). While Kyoto Imperial Palace is in a national park called Kyoto Imperial Gardens, the place used to be a residential district for court nobles instead of a park or gardens.
