This is the fine lifework of Uemura Shoen, a woman painter of beauty painting, which took more than twenty years for completion since the order by Empress Teimei. The subject is elegant women genre scenes in the Heian period Court with themes of snow, moon and flower, graceful scenes from Makura no Soshi, The Tale of Genji and perhaps The Tale of Ise expressed by the dignified composition and beautiful color arrangement.
